VKL GUEST STUDIO

Elin Glærum Haugland

The Guest Studio at Vestfossen Kunstlaboratoriet is a resource that is offered to professional artists who might profit from a sustained period of work at Vestfossen. The studio is part of Arena Vestfossen, a studio collective that is housed in the same building as VKL. One of the purposes of the Guest Studio is to contribute to an exchange of artistic ideas among both Norwegian and foreign artists. Elin Glærum Haugland was guest artist at the studio in April 2016.

Elin Glærum Haugland was born in 1988 in Bærum. She studied at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art for her bachelor’s degree. She works in a variety of media, for most part in painting and video.

During the winter of  2015–16, Haugland undertook an artistic expedition to Peruvian Amazonia, Easter Island, Tahiti, Samoa, and New Zealand. She wished to learn how to paint with natural pigments from the rain forest, as well as experience Pacific jungle environments.

Shortly after returning, she started on her month’s residency of Vestfossen’s Guest Studio. There she worked through her experiences from her Pacific journey, and also mounted the paintings she had created during the trip.
